Physical Education
The Physical Education department is a growing, thriving subject which has seen A*-C GCSE results in 90% bracket for the past five years and 100% pass rate for OCR Sport since it began in 2004. Physical Education now boasts a department of seven full time PE specialists plus a technician and a graduate teacher. The department offers three academic pathways, GCSE PE, Level 2 OCR Sport (which is equivalent to 4 GCSEs) and BTEC Dance (which is equivalent to 2 GCSEs).
The atmosphere and delivery in Physical Education is vibrant with lots of activity, learning and fun all encapsulated during the lessons. The department has made positive strides with the use of ICT in PE and this has assisted in actively engaging pupils in their learning and ability to evaluate and improve their own and others’ performances. All lessons throughout the Physical Education department, both practical and theory, are objective-led and have an engaging starter. All practical lessons begin with pupil-lead warm-ups following the learning objectives being displaying using the projectors in the changing rooms or the flat screen televisions in the gymnasiums.
The department also has a very active extra-curricular programme where pupils give up their free time after school to attend the Out of School Hours Clubs. The school offers boys and girls the chance to participate and improve in sports such as football, rugby league and rugby union, netball, hockey, volleyball, basketball, handball, rounders, cricket, athletics, tennis, lacrosse to name a few of the opportunities available to pupils. Wade Deacon High School continues to be successful in and around Halton in all sports and have also achieved local and national success in individual and team games.
