Key Stage 3 Physical Education
All pupils receive two lessons per week for Physical Education.
The atmosphere and delivery in Physical Education is vibrant with lots of activity, learning and fun all encapsulated during the lessons. The department has made positive strides with the use of ICT in PE and this has assisted in actively engaging pupils in their learning and ability to evaluate and improve their own and others’ performances.
In September 2008, the Physical Education department purchased four Interactive Boards which are used for improving reactions, coordination and fitness as well as providing lots of enjoyment.
The Physical Education Department has been delivering concept-lead lessons for the past academic year in preparation for the new Curriculum in September 2008. The focus of the Key Stage 3 Curriculum is slightly different for each year group, as are the experiences which the pupils will encounter. Year 7 pupils are provided with tasters into a variety of sports which lead to attendance at Extra Curricular Clubs. In Year 8, a more personalized approach is taken with pupils focusing upon the sports that suit their abilities as well as experiencing leadership opportunities and qualifications. In Year 9, pupils follow a route that helps them make decisions for Key Stage 4 study as well as more leadership opportunities.
