Technology
The atmosphere in the faculty is supportive, challenging and creative. The technology faculty has developed an ethos of using the latest technology to actively engage pupils in their learning. Technology, the use of problem solving and manufacturing techniques are at the core of everything that we do in school. All staff are trained in more than one discipline which provides the innovation and flexibility required to effectively deliver a broad curriculum. The faculty sets and expects high standards of work and engages highly qualified subject experts to deliver a range of courses that suit the needs of the pupils. Staff have high levels of expectation, which they share through an extensive Curriculum Planning Development programme.
The faculty is particularly strong in its use of external and internal data that is used to set, monitor and track targets at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. The use of ICT and in particular CAD/CAM is outstanding at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. All pupils are encouraged to be independent learners and they are expected to use resources that are available to them 24 hours a day via the RM Community Connect 4 Network and the Virtual Learning Platform. Our staff act as role models for their peers and also their pupils, conveying the desire for excellence both inside and outside lessons.

All lessons throughout the Technology faculty are objective-led and have an engaging starter, one, or a series of main learning activities and a plenary.
The environment in which lessons are taught is one in which pupils feel comfortable to ‘take a risk’ and all are encouraged to play an active role in activities.
Home learning activities are set regularly in line with the school’s homework timetable and both formative and summative assessment takes place throughout each project on a regular basis.
Attainment levels are awarded to each pupil and from these levels the pupils will set themselves a new target. Each Key Stage 3 pupil has a mark scheme linked to the National Curriculum Attainment Level descriptors that is bespoke to the unit of work being undertaken to assist their self and peer assessment activities.
Every pupil will study at least 1 material area of Design and Technology and take the subsequent GCSE examination at the end of the full course at key stage 4 and some will study 2. In 2008 Design and Technology celebrated the following outstanding GCSE results:
A*-A 50% A*-C 96%
