Key Stage 4 ICT
Key Stage 4 ICT provides an opportunity for pupils to develop their ICT capability. All pupils at Wade Deacon High School follow a GCSE or equivalent course. Pupils begin to work towards their awards during Year 9.
AQA Syllabus
Allows GCSE Pupils to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of:
- Hardware Components
- Software Applications Operating Systems
- Data Transfer
- Networks and Communications
- Data Handling
- ICT in Society
Pupils demonstrate their ability to use information technology by providing solutions to problems. Analysis, design, implementation, testing and evaluation of problems are required to complete coursework.
There are two tiers of assessment Foundation (Grades G-C can be achieved) and Higher (grades D-A* can be achieved).
The assessment for the course has three elements.
Written paper - 40%
AQA set assignment - 30%.
Coursework project - 30%.
OCR Syllabus
This qualification provides pupils with high quality, industry-relevant qualifications and an opportunity to develop skills and gain knowledge in ICT. The qualification will support entry to both work and progression to further studies.
Pupils completing the OCR Level 2 National First Award in ICT will achieve the equivalent of a GCSE at one of 3 levels; a pass (Grade C), merit (Grade B) or distinction (Grade A).
The course is completed during 90 guided teacher led hours by completing two units; ICT Skills for Business and Creating Computer Graphics.
For pupils who advance during this qualification there is an opportunity to attempt more modules and gain the equivalent of two GCSE’s in ICT.
This qualification is 100% coursework based.
Pupils do need extensive access to computers to support their coursework. It is not a requirement to have a computer at home; opportunities to complete work are provided at school.
