MODERN LANGUAGES FACULTY
Overview of the Faculty
The Modern Languages Faculty consists of 7 members of staff.
Mrs J Gaul – Leader of Learning
Mrs H Patterson – Deputy Leader of Learning
Mr I Daniels
Mrs D Lunn
Mr M Wyss
The faculty uses a wide variety of resources to deliver languages in an enjoyable, interactive, fun and challenging manner. Much of what we used is self produced, using the considerable ICT expertise and resources available, via Powerpoints, CD, mp3 and other audio resources, as well as Active Studio Interactive Whiteboard software (all rooms are equipped with Interactive Whiteboards).
We use much MFL specific software eg Start and Départ as well as Unterwegs and En route, together with MFL web sites such as Language skills.co.uk, to which we subscribe.
Extra Curricular Activities
Mrs Lunn and Miss White run a Languages club one lunchtime a week for KS3 pupils.
The Faculty has links with two schools – one in Weissenburg (in Bavaria in Germany) and the other in the Vendée region of France. We have taken part in several successful exchange visits with both schools. We have traditionally exchanged with Germany one year then France the next year. In May and June 2005 we plan to exchange with our German school.
We have run an educational holiday to the Rhineland and several one day visits to Boulogne.
Recently we have offered pupils in year 7 and year 9 the chance to have penfriends/e-mail correspondents with our German school – The Werner –von-Siemens-Gymnasium. Over 120 pupils in year 7, and around 70 in year 9 now have a ‘partner’ in Germany!
Last June we also successfully video-conferenced with our German school.
